To keep engaged everybody during the current Covid-19 pandemic, IndianFolk.com is organising a Trash to Treasure competition for all interested candidates. The competition will be held in three age groups as provided below along with the prize money. All winners will also receive a certificate from IndianFolk.com.
Our objective with the Trash to Treasure competition is to change the way people look at surplus or waste. Endless possibilities open up and people are encouraged to use their imagination to innovate. The Trash to Treasure initiate provides opportunities for people to learn how to use surplus or reduce waste by recycling and reusing materials (trash) to make useful and useable products. This initiative has three elements:
-Waste reduction and learning to save by creating rather than purchasing
-Development of creative or/and entrepreneurial skills
Candidates may take everyday surplus, discarded or recycled material and re-engineer it into functional products. The product can move things or people, protect the environment, or be something kids can play with inside or out. Some of the repurposed materials candidates might use fabric, paper, plastic, small electronics, wheels, clamps, springs, batteries, hardware, wood, bike parts, string, rubber bands, cardboard, kitchen gadgets, etc. in their designs.
There is an entry fee of Rs.179, which must be paid online at the website on or before 11:59 PM 7th July 2020 (A late fee of Rs.35 applies if paid after this due-date). Candidates who do not have a Debit Card, Credit Card, NetBanking, UPI or Paytm Wallet may use their parent’s, relative’s or friend’s card or account to make the payment. All candidates must make their product’s image/video by 11:59 PM 12th July 2020 (revised date). Specific instructions for registration, payment and submission are provided below. Winners will be announced on or before 20th July 2020 (revised date). Prize money will be awarded transferred within one week of announcement. We will publish the product image/video of top three prize winners (and select consolation prize winners) on our website and social media, where we have 32 lakh followers. Thus, the winners will receive high visibility.

Questions & Answers (Q&A)
How do we determine the eligibility within each Age Group?
To determine whether a candidate is eligible to participate or which Age Group a candidate falls under, he or she should determine their age as of May 1, 2020. Thus, candidates born after May 1, 2013 will not be eligible to participate in this competition.
Similarly, a candidate born May 1, 2002 will be considered for the Age Group 18-24 while the candidate born May 2, 2002 will be considered for the Age Group 7-17.
Should you have questions about which Age Group you will fall under or whether you are eligible to participate, please contact us at the phone numbers or email provided at the end of this Q&A.
If a 20-year old candidate is a working professional, which Age Group will he/she be considered?
Age Group supersedes the Category of Candidates. Thus, if a 20-year old candidate is a working professional, he or she would still be considered for the 18-24 Age Group.
How are you going to validate a participating candidate’s age to ensure he or she falls in the right Age Group?
We are not going to ask for proof of age of participating candidates. By the way of registration and payment, the candidates self-certify that they fall within the right Age Group. At the time of awarding prize money, however, we may ask for proof of age from the top three and consolation prize winners.
Are multiple submissions by a candidate allowed?
A candidate may do more than submission to increase his or her chances of winning. However, the candidate must pay the equivalent entry fee for such submissions. For instance, if you would like to submit three different product image/video, you need to pay a total of three times of Rs.179 (i.e. Rs.537 as the entry fee).
Should the entry fee for multiple submissions be paid all at once? Or can a candidate pay the entry fee for second or third craft products later at the time of their submission?
It is best to decide upfront on the number of products you are going to submit and pay the equivalent entry fee all at once. If you have paid entry fee for only one product after registration, and then decide to pay entry fee for more products at a later time, you may still do so before the payment due-date 11:59 PM 7th July 2020 (A late fee of Rs.35 applies if paid after this due-date).
Can siblings or members of the same family participate?
Yes, siblings or members of the same family can participate and do submissions. However, each sibling (or family member) should have his or her individual registration and pay the required entry fee.
How are you going to validate that a candidate’s submission is genuinely his/her submission, and was not done with the assistance of his/her relative, friend or affiliate who is an expert at product crafting?
Participating candidates must ensure propriety during this competition. While it is not very uncommon to take some high-level advice or guidance during such online competitions, all candidates must ensure that they create/design by themselves and not seek the assistance of others during the crafting process.
What are the criteria for evaluation of submitted products?
Evaluation will be based on the following features of your product – originality, usability, materials used, message conveyed, environmental benefits, sustainability, out of the box thinking, or a combination thereof.
Do the candidates need to follow any specific standard (or style) when crafting the product?
We are not proposing any specific standard (or style) for product creation. We are aware there are different standards, and candidates may choose the standards they are comfortable with. The evaluation criteria mentioned above does not include adherence to a specific standard or style.
Can the candidates submit previously submitted crafted products for other competitions, examinations, websites, mobile app, newspapers or magazines?
You cannot submit a product that was previously submitted for another competition, external examination, website, mobile app, newspaper or magazine. However, if you had crafted a design after January 1, 2020 for the purpose of internal (i.e. class, grade or section) test/examination specific to your school, college or institution, you may submit such product assuming it wasn’t published on any website, mobile app, newspaper or magazine.
Can candidates outside India, NRIs, PIOs, OCIs, internationals or non-Indian citizens participate in this competition?
Yes, anyone can participate in this competition as long as they meet age requirements mentioned on Page 1 of this document. However, the entry fee must be paid in Indian Rupees or US Dollars only as the website doesn’t accept other currencies.
Can text be included in the product?
It is fine to include text, statements, or tag-lines in the product pictures/video, if the candidate thinks that it would have a higher impact. Such text, statements or tag-lines may be in English, Hindi, regional Indian languages or any other language that the candidate is familiar with.
After registration and payment of entry fee, can a candidate ask for the refund of entry fee and not participate in the competition?
We recommend all candidates to be very sure about participating in the competition before they pay the entry fee. Due to the costs involved on our end in managing the registrations, payments, and evaluations, we can’t refund the entry fee whether you submit the drawing/painting or not.
